About the event

The lecture will cover the history of the first international Italian houses, like Salvatore Ferragamo; the complicated relationship between fashion and fascism; and will end with the famed Sala Bianca fashion show in 1951.


About the Author:

Marcella Martin holds a doctorate in Italian Studies from New York University. Prior to that she was a Lecturer at Jefferson University (Philadelphia, PA), where she also served as Curator of the Costume and Textile Collection. In 2023, she curated the exhibition Made in Italy | Sold in America: Fashion in Attenzione Magazine, 1979-1987 at the Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimo at New York University. She has contributed to publications on Italian contemporary art, fashion, and museums.
